Nearly 40% of young people bypass traditional search engines for social apps such as TikTok and Instagram, said a Google SVP in a recent article in the New York Times.

“TikTok’s rise as a discovery tool is part of a broader transformation in digital search,” reported Kalley Huang, a youth & technology writer.

“While Google remains the world’s dominant search engine, people are turning to Amazon to search for products, Instagram to stay updated on trends and Snapchat’s Snap Maps to find local businesses.
