A challenge to a new manager is detecting the impact your words have following your transition from teammate to boss.
Before you were just one of them. No longer. Now that you hold sway over their salary, position and career, teammates listen to each word you say with a more critical ear. Think of it this way: If your words had 1x power as a teammate, they will suddenly have 5x as a manager.
