Also listen to your stakeholders – and be ready to pivot

In addition to listening to your team, you must listen carefully to what your clients – be they internal or external – are saying about your product and service offering. You have to continually query the stakeholders whom you serve, asking how you can improve.

When we first launched The 100 Companies, we heard about a missing element in our offering – that clients didn’t have the bandwidth to develop content – yet it took us six years to pivot.

When we did, one client called it a “game-changer.” We thought we had a sure-win product. We did, once we added the missing piece.
