How to manage your team #3: Ask the introverts

It's the quiet members of your team you'll need to draw out.

When leading your first team meetings, you won’t have trouble getting input from the extroverts. They’ll offer their ideas early and often. Their ideas might be great and they may be future team leaders.

Then cast your eyes toward the others, the quiet ones, the introverts. Gently include them. During a lull, ask them by name what they are thinking. Don’t let others interrupt them.

The extroverts might be confused why you are calling on the introverts, but the introverts will be very appreciative of your inclusive efforts. And you may find they have important suggestions. Still waters run deep.
