How to manage your team #4: Toss that list

Make a list and then be ready to toss it

A big surprise becoming a manager was the frustration I felt discovering I couldn’t accomplish my daily list of things to do.

When I became a manager, I had to realize my schedule was no longer my own. Instead of planning to work my list, I learned to toss it and to respond to needs of my team. It was a big day when I accepted the reality that THAT was my job.

At day’s end, don’t be frustrated by your open checkboxes. Smile, knowing you were present for your team’s priorities and did a fine job responding to them.
