How to manage your team #9: Form a question

When critiquing a teammate's work, ask it in the form of a question

One of the biggest challenges in the game show Jeopardy is forming your answer in the form of question . Whenever you need to give feedback or critique a teammate’s work, remember Jeopardy.

If you think an element can be improved, say “What do you think it would be like if you added (blank)?” Even if they reject your suggestion, respond by saying, “Would you be open to producing it both ways so we can analyze which way best achieves our goals.”

This approach lowers your employee’s defensiveness, increasing the chances they will contribute their thoughts in the evaluation process later.
